The Artist
Painting the quiet noise of an island.
Canvas Ceylon is the working name of a Colombo-based painter whose practice spans classical portraiture, contemporary landscape and abstract works in mineral pigment. Trained in the traditions of South Asian temple painting and later in European oil technique, her canvases sit at the meeting point of the two.
Each piece begins on the road — in markets, monasteries, fishing villages — and is finished in a small studio overlooking the canal. Works are held in private collections across Sri Lanka, Singapore, London and Sydney.
